Holt Odermatt Wins His Second FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Gold
The Alpine Skiing World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, concluded on Monday with a thrilling men’s giant slalom race. Swiss skier Marco Odermatt emerged the winner, claiming his second world championship gold medal.
Odermatt, 22, was the clear favourite going into the race. In the first run, he showed why, laying down a fast and flawless run to establish a 0.85 second lead over his closest rival, Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen.
The second run was even more impressive as Odermatt extended his lead to 1.75 seconds. He crossed the finish line with a total time of 2 minutes, 45.11 seconds – more than two seconds faster than the silver medalist, Kristoffersen.
The victory was Odermatt’s second world championship gold after his win in the super combined event in 2019. He also picked up two bronze medals in the slalom and combined events at this year’s world championships.
With his two gold medals, Odermatt joins an elite group of skiers who have won multiple world championship golds. He is now one of only fourteen skiers in history to have achieved the feat.
The Swiss skier’s impressive performance at the world championships is a sign of great things to come. With his youth and talent, Odermatt is sure to make an impact on the world of alpine skiing for years to come.
